Today's comic is inspired by my lovely daughter who recently found herself some pen pals to write to. It was only after a couple of letters that she realized she was writing to prisoners in the US. It hasn't put her off, far from it. She's thoroughly enjoyed their letters and it's nice that she's enjoying snail mail in this digital age. Nothing beats receiving a letter. I must admit to being a bit nervous but the correspondence has really interested her. She tells me some of the writing has been of a very high standard, one of the guys is incredibly funny and another an amazing illustrator who uses his talent to draw naughty pictures for other inmates!
Today's comic is an example of reusing an old rejected rough for a new joke. Sadly the States don't have the Counting Magpies song (aka Counting Crows) "One for Sorrow, Two for Joy, Three for a Girl, Four for a Boy etc etc" so this pencil rough was rejected. Shame, because it's quite a good joke here in the UK. Can you spot the similarities?
By complete coincidence my son and his girlfriend are in Egypt at the moment and he texted me yesterday to tell me that today is the day they visit Cairo and the Pyramids. Well, they say good comedy is all about great timing.
Who's that little guy sitting in the row behind? What's he doing there and why's he not busy in his own comic? What a slacker. The greatest compliment of all from the multitalented Jonathan Lemon. Thanks mate.
