Coincidence

How's this for a coincidence...
I'm a big fan of fellow Brit Jonathan Lemon's brilliant Rabbits Against Magic comic strip. It's very funny and his color work is superb. Anyway, we both chose the same topic for yesterday's Sunday comic...Homophones!

With or without the 3rd panel?

My fellow British syndicated cartoonist buddy Alex Hallatt (creator of the fantastic Arctic Circle) emailed me to say that, for her, it wasn't necessary to have the third panel in this comic strip. I am aware that some readers occasionally require a little more help in getting a punchline. I prefer not to do this as a joke is weakened by too much "spoonfeeding" but on balance I felt this was one such occasion where a little more explanation was needed.

Which do you prefer?

"Where do you get your ideas?" #608

Thanks to some really loud drama students (are there any other kinds?) for today's comic. A group of them were learning their lines on the table next to me which gave me this idea. No complaints from me, therefore, but I bet the other people in the room were very happy to see them exit stage left eventually.

Closet Monster

As I spend a lot of time drawing those Sunday opening panels I might as well show them somewhere...

Guess what they're saying...

This is one of my favorite Ollie and Quentin jokes and it's lovely to see it in Swedish. For you non-Swedes try and guess what they're saying. Click here for a translation.

Buckaroo v Rock'em Sock'em Robots

My original rough had Ollie and Quentin playing "Buckaroo" where you have to hang items on the Bucking Mule without it bucking them off. (Why is that sentence making me giggle?) It's a bit like that Surgery game. However I was told that Buckaroo isn't as popular in the States as it is here in the UK hence the change to Rock'em Sock'em Robots (which I think works better anyway).

"Where do you get your ideas?" #605

I know someone who has an awful habit of ringing me while they're eating and it drives me crazy. Every crunch, munch, chomp and slurp is amplified in my ear.

Got a joke out of it though so I shouldn't complain.
