Sunday strip in full

I think it's a real shame the 'drop' panel is dropped when comics appear online. I can understand why newspapers might chose to do it but see no reason whatsoever that the same goes for online applications.

David-Wasting-Paper Blog Interview

David Paccia, "a forty-something year old married guy who is referred to as "The Geek" by his wife" asked me to answer his now famous few questions on his excellent David-Wasting-Paper blog. Want to know how I'm connected to the artist that drew Pooh, who creeps me out or why my school friend fell off his chair laughing? You can read my answers here.

Congratulations to Dan Piraro, Stephan Pastis and Richard Thompson on their nominations for the Reuben Award For Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year. The above comics illustrate why.

Bad Mood Cloud

This week's 'Bad Mood Cloud' strips touch on the subject of depression. We probably all know someone who suffers from this complicated illness. In fact 15% of us will suffer from it at some point in our lives. Although I'm making light of the subject depression is a serious illness. A few people still think it's not a real illness and that it's a form of weakness or admission of failure. This is not true. Depression is a real illness with real effects, and it is certainly not a sign of failure. In fact, famous leaders, such as Winston Churchill, Abraham Lincoln and Mahatma Gandhi, all had periods of depression.

Quentin isn't actually depressed, he just sometimes wakes up feeling miserable and, with the help of his friend Ollie, is lucky enough to get over it in a few days. In real life depression can last weeks or even months.

As for me, I sometimes wake up with a foreboding sense of impending disaster which I usually attribute to the next comic deadline.

Beat this for a Tweet!

Let's be honest, a lot of Tweets are pretty dumb, self important lines of pointless twaddle (especially mine) but every now and again I'm bowled over by one. How about this for a cool Tweet. It's from Soichi Noguchi, a flight engineer on the International Space Station and it's a photo of the newly installed Cupola windows looking down at the Sahara. How cool is that?! When I first saw this Tweet it had only just been posted and I felt very humbled. Click here for the post or the above title for Soichi's Twitter page. Click here for an awesome photo of the approaching Space Shuttle Endeavour.

Talking of the Space Shuttle, check out John Hambrock's current series on selling off the Shuttle Fleet in the excellent 'The Brilliant Mind of Edison Lee.' Always good for a laugh.

Speechless Comics

I color my comics in Photoshop with the speech bubbles layer hidden. I've just been looking back at some and thought these looked quite fun without Ollie and Quentin's voices.

Chinese English

This surprised me. I had no idea the word 'Chinaman' might be considered a racist term. I'm an Englishman and don't consider that derogatory at all. Anyhoo, I had to change it.

Here's the answer to my previous "Guess the Movie" post. It's "Alien!"

Oh...er... I aleady gave you the answer. What I mean to say is here's the 'Alien' strip in it's entirety.

Smutsig

I love reading the Swedish translation of Ollie and Quentin. I think their word for dirty is great, "Smutsig!"

Jellyfish

What is it about Jellyfish this week? Not only have they appeared in Sherman's Lagoon, Pearls Before Swine and good ol' Ollie and Quentin but I watched Shark Tale for the first time the other day and "wow" THAT'S how to draw jellyfish. Makes our efforts look really lame.

Flychelangelo

Have you seen these? An artist dubbed Flychelangelo is creating a buzz by using dead flies and other insects to create his work. Some are a bit sick but very funny with it. The Tall & Short one is exactly like me and my lovely partner Teresa. (I'm the tall one).
Should really have been called 'Flykillangelo."

Run Forrest Run

I'm a runner, and all the runners I know have had "Run Forrest Run" shouted at them at some point.

England v Wales Rugby

Great excitement! The 6 Nations Rugby Tournament starts today, my favorite sporting event of the year. England take on Wales at Twickenham this evening and I'm going to be there! I'm one of about 80,000 and I'll be sat directly behind the North Stand posts with my sister's boyfriend Matt. He says he'll be wearing a chicken costume so I'm going as St.George slaying the dragon, in full armour. We're about half way up and you should see us if any kicks go over that end. We'll give you a wave.
C'mon England!

(The illustrations above were drawn for a flag company and it's probably my favorite commisssion to date).
